SOMEWHERE MIGHT BE THE PLACE

Between Los Angeles and Las Vegas, the desert provides a sanctuary for those who are crushed by these two monstrous cities: too expensive to live in, too challenging or synonymous of perversion. The people I met during this trip voluntarily isolated themselves. The desert becomes an Eden, nowhere becomes home.

They remake society in isolated villages. Sometimes without public services or police. In places where nature plays with perception and where strangeness is everywhere. Kate met her husband William there after losing everything in the monster wildfires in 2015. Sammy took a job as a waitress after years of struggle as a stripper in Las Vegas. Rena finds peace in her motel between two freeways where she's lived for five years.... They all praised the desert expanse, but the thought of losing that peace rises. Since the Covid, many people are following the same path as them, real estate prices are rising, cities are constantly pushing their limits, mass tourism is back, and the search for lithium is threatening some of these lost havens.
